Laboratory

CFPUA has an environmental lab supporting its sampling and analytical needs. We are a certified lab by the state of North Carolina to provide analytical services for our drinking water, wastewater systems and treatment facilities. Approximately 70,000 analyses are performed annually by our highly trained staff. We work diligently to ensure the accuracy of data provided to protect the health of our customers and our environment.

As a certified lab, we are required to use approved methods to collect and analyze drinking water and wastewater compliance samples. This gives us reliable information on the quality of the water we provide. Lab results are also used to provide timely and accurate data to our operations staff which enables them to make critical decisions in the operations of the systems to protect public health and the environment.

As a Stephanie in LabCertified Lab we must:

  • -Be certified by the State to analyze drinking water and wastewater samples for compliance monitoring
  • -Successfully analyze proficiency testing (PT) samples at least annually for each certified method
    • -Use approved methods
    • -Report compliance data to the governing authority (NCDEQ, NCPWS, EPA)
    • -Pass periodic rigorous on-site audits by the certification body

In addition to the primary functions above, we respond to Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSOs) and other environmental investigations, are involved in pilot studies, research projects and scientific partnerships with universities and governmental agencies, and provide mutual aid in the form of sampling and analytical services through North Carolina Water/Wastewater Agency Response Network (NCWaterWARN).
