Community Assistance compliance officers are also responsible for insuring industries comply with the CFPUA’s Sewer Use Ordinance. Discharges from industrial and commercial establishments are regulated to protect the health and safety of CFPUA workers and the general public, and to prevent wastewater plant upsets.
Regular monitoring also reduces the risk of pollutant pass-through and exposure in the water, land, and air. Industrial and commercial surveys, industrial user permits, water quality monitoring, and on-site inspections are helpful in determining compliance.
The Pretreatment Program staff provides outreach and educational programs to emphasize the detrimental impact fats, oils, and grease (F.O.G.) has on the CFPUA’s sewer collection system. Pretreatment staff also creates and distributes information regarding waste reduction and pollution prevention.
