The Environmental and Safety Management (ESM) Department provides laboratory testing services in support of the Water and Wastewater Treatment Divisions to ensure regulatory compliance. The ESM lab is certified by the State of North Carolina.

The Department also administers the City's wastewater pretreatment program and the City's drinking water cross-connection control program.

We are committed to protecting our natural resources and ensuring the health and well being of Authority customers and employees by being conscientious stewards of the environment, by promoting safe, responsible work practices, by working to ensure a sustainable utility, and by providing exceptional internal and external customer service.

ESM also develops and implements the Safety and Environmental Management Programs for the approximately 300 employees of the CFPUA. The Safety Program has the responsibility of ensuring these employees are properly trained to ensure a safe working environment for everyone.

The Environmental Management Program will establish a management system that conforms to the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System standard. This system will encompass a commitment by CFPUA to compliance with laws and regulations, continual improvement, and prevention of pollution.
