Holidays & Leave

The Authority will follow the same holiday schedule observed by the State of North Carolina.
Typically those holidays are as follows:
  • New Year's Day - January 1
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day - 3rd Monday in January
  • Good Friday - Friday Before Easter
  • Memorial Day - Last Monday in May
  • Independence Day - July 4
  • Labor Day - 1st Monday in September
  • Veteran's Day - November 11
  • Thanksgiving Day - 4th Thursday in November
  • Day after Thanksgiving Day - Friday after Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Day - December 25 (plus 1 to 2 additional work days)
Vacation Leave
Any regular full-time employee shall earn vacation leave at the following rates:

Maximum accumulation of accrued vacation leave for regular full-time employees is 320 hours in any authority fiscal year.

Sick Leave
Each full-time regular and probationary employee shall earn sick leave at the following rates:

A month of retirement credit is allowed for each 20 days accrued in an employee’s sick leave account at time of retirement to employees who are members of the North Carolina Local Governmental Employee’s Retirement System.

Other Leave
  • Military Service: To fulfill military obligation
  • Bereavement leave: 3 days per event
  • Administrative leave: By event
  • FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act): Up to 12 weeks (unpaid)
