Disability & Life Insurance

Overview
Cape Fear Public Utility Authority offers Term Life Insurance to all eligible employees through AIG. Premiums for the Base Life Insurance are paid by CFPUA.
  • Employee - One times annual salary
    • Minimum benefit - $25,000
    • Maximum benefit - $150,000
  • Spouse - $5,000
  • Children - $2,500
Age Based Benefit Reduction
  • To 65% at age 65
  • To 50% at age 70
Enrollment
An employee has 30 days from their date of hire to enroll in the policy without any health questions being asked. After the 30 days, employees will be required to complete an Evidence of Insurability form. An EOI is required of all amounts over the guarantee issued amount.

Additional Life Insurance

Cape Fear Public Utility Authority offers life insurance through AIG. Eligible employees have the option to purchase additional life insurance at group rates (rates are age banded):
  • Employees may purchase up to $300,000 in increments of $10,000
  • For Spouse - up to $150,000 in increments of $5,000
  • For Children - up to $10,000 in increments of $2,500
An employee has 30 days from their date of hire to enroll in the policy without any health questions being asked. After the 30 days, an Evidence of Insurability form is required to enroll.

Long Term Disability
Cape Fear Public Utility Authority offers long-term disability coverage to eligible employees through AIG at no charge to the employees. Coverage includes:
  • Income Benefit 60%
  • Must be employed 2 years
  • Maximum Monthly Benefit $6,000
  • Minimum Monthly Benefit $100
  • Benefit waiting Period 90 days
  • Max Benefit Period 2 years
